Risks do not just crystallize but have triggers that promote them to. In farming, one of the main contributing factors is climate change, which has increased the occurrence of crystallization of production risks. Sadly, farmers are being exposed to several production risks such as pest and disease outbreaks, fire outbreaks due to prolonged drought, decreased yield, low or excessive rainfall amongst others. Thus, risks need to be properly managed in order to curtail its negative impact on the livelihood of the farmers and largely food security. Thus, the need for micro-insurance products is germane to the survival of an average farmer. Subsequently, investment in micro insurance is now a must for every developing country where smallholder farmers are the bedrock of their agricultural activities. Providing appropriate insurance education to reduce the myths and embrace the use of microinsurance products for every production cycle is the only sustainable means available for smallholder farmers to cushion the effects of climate change. This is because production activities need to be gauged against external factors which have become major concerns in the sector. These are challenging times and we need to be more deliberate in finding lasting solutions. Sadly, the changes in the climate are here to stay with us for as long as we decide to eliminate the contributing factors. So, we are stuck in there but not in entirety as building the right tools and strategies to mitigate its impact are essential for the sector to thrive in achieving zero hunger, also in the face of population explosion. We need to put the right policies in place also to encourage the appropriate stakeholders in the microinsurance sub sector to intensify the programme by mobilizing more investment and sensitizing more farmers to use microinsurance products as risk mitigants. Also, adopting other climate adaptation techniques to improve productivity and efficiency should be rightly promoted. We must take note that microinsurance products wouldn't stop the issue of climate change, however it'd ultimately reduce the loss of revenue and livelihoods which are the ripple effects of climate change. We need to stop this pandemic as its impact is becoming more devastating than we had recorded in the past. It is now important to address the root cause when it can be managed! Now is the time to take action against the lip service.
